Sunday in Outer Blogness: Back in Business Edition!

chanson, March 8, 2009November 7, 2024

So, instead of cleaning my apartment yesterday as planned, I spent the morning going through the Outer Blogness list, updating and correcting it. There are still a few bugs to work out (explained here), but now the blogroll here and the Outer Blogness list have been synchronized, and they contain all of the exmo/post-mo/DAMU blogs that I’m currently aware of. I’m sure there are more out there, though! If you know of one I don’t have on my list, please leave a comment.

Remember that when you join Outer Blogness, I subscribe to your blog, which means you’re automatically included in this weekly roundup! Unless you don’t like incoming links — please say so when you join if you’re one of those bloggers with this strange eccentricity. 😉 And, for those people who don’t want to wait for the Sunday-digested version, you can subscribe to this RSS feed (suggested by MoHoHawaii). Now, on to some highlights from this week:

We’ve got a whole lot of interesting news — not all of it serious — about gay issues. (Oh and one transgender joke.) Friendly Atheist attended an anti-gay political workshop and has a very interesting report on it. Chino Blanco will soon give an update on the documentary 8: The Mormon Proposition. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I read what Jesus’ General is doing to defend the urinals of freedom (from teh gay). And in the “It would be funnier if it weren’t real” department, Jewish Atheist posts Nixon’s tapes about homosexuality and Archie Bunker.

In other news, Andrew does a little photo-journalism (at a pro-life exhibit). Jana talks about how the Word of Wisdom places former members in a bind. John R. reports that the LDS temple ceremony is going prime time, via “Big Love.” Andee tells about proudly wearing her “CTL” ring — I want one too! Heather talks about confusion and conflicting feelings as her daughter goes on her first date in condoms, bananas, and Led Zeppelin. And here’s a fascinating doctrinal question from Soy Yo:

It seems that each time the topic [of salvation by faith alone] comes up, a LDS person has to ask, “If all I have to do it believe, why then are the demons and Satan not saved when the Bible says that they believe in God?”

Excellent question! This one never even occurred to me (since, naturally, I don’t believe in Satan and demons), but it’s interesting to contemplate the doctrinal implications for those who do. Soy Yo doesn’t think this is a valid objection — you can see whether you agree.

And I’m sorry if this weeks installment seems a little rushed. You see, I’m off to a real life post-mo get-together, and since one of the attendees has been posting about old-fashioned cocktails and crypto-kinky toys, you can imagine I don’t want to be late! 😀

Everybody’s talking about the 99% movement, which — despite unfriendly police encounters — is still going after two months, and inspiring others. Maybe there’s something to the idea of having no leaders. And when it comes to Democracy vs. Theocracy, remember which side the church is on and which side…

It seems like a couple of years ago there was some LDS-related scandal practically every other week — often making national and international news. Now, not so much. I guess the CoJCoL-dS can’t compete with Trump. Those were the days. Well, let me scrape together what Mormon news I found…

Hellmut — In this case, I think you can just click on the link I posted and see the latest set of posts. Otherwise, you can make a google account and select the “reader” feature, select “add subscription”, and paste in the RSS URL.
