Sunday in Outer Blogness: Pride Edition!

chanson, June 7, 2009January 15, 2011

james-mormons This photo (from Aussielicious, hat tip MoHoHawaii) is too funny! I love the look on the companion’s face as he helps usher in a new era of Mormon-homo understanding.

So it’s pride week — the 40th anniversary of Stonewall — with events all over! I posted my own photos of Europride 2009 (in Zrich), and I hope the good folks of Outer Blogness will post some photos of the pride events in SLC and elsewhere. Sterkwerks has had the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life by being “out” this pride weekend. On the other end of the spectrum, Jesus’ General presents a book report on How Hate Talk Radicalized the American Right.

And what about our apostate pride? Brent has been asked to resign from the church (or get bounced) — guess which he picked! Equality, being a “polite apostate” offers BYU students a helpful list of YouTube channels to check out (now that they may be allowed). And Saganist replies to a talk on “avoiding personal apostasy” by explaining that it comes down to evidence. (Speaking of evidence, How about that Book of Abraham? World-wide flood? Anyone up for the Jaredite barge challenge?)

And let’s close with a few heart-warming stories: a runner breaks the wall, and two dads learn lessons about the magic of kids and stories!

October 23, 2008May 17, 2011

On August 13, 2008, the Mormon church released a statement titled The Divine Institution of Marriage, explaining the reasons for its support of Proposition 8. The church’s statement is well-written and comprehensive, and it seems to invite open, rational discussion on the issue. However, many of its arguments are flawed….
