Sunday in Outer Blogness: Lifecycle Edition!

chanson, January 23, 2011May 25, 2011

This week’s collection of posts take us on a trip from the beginning of life to the end. First there’s birth — lots of birth! — and the initial moments bonding with mom. Then you get one type of parenting or another, or worse.

Next thing you know, it’s off to Young Womens’ — an experience so full of regrets! Next come sexy thoughts, rebellious actions, and more dealing with the parents. A mission can be so much fun if you know the tricks. Then business school to learn the magical jargon to fill your future with success!

Should you marry, or just have NSA sex? Mind you, marriage doesn’t have to mean limiting yourself to one partner, and, on the other hand, it may leave you scrounging for dodgy tips to spice up your sex life. Should you remain single? (That option seems to lead to an astonishing amount of analysis.)

But your path swerves and gets bumpy. Atheism happens. You try to find yourself, figure out where you fit, satisfy your hunger for happiness. Maybe you still believe some things or still pray (despite disbelief). You get demonized, pulled back into the social circle, and/or move on with poise.

Then you die. The end. Did you win?

There was also a sub-theme this week about interesting books! Mind on Fire is giving away a copy of one of my all-time graphic novels!! This one might also be interesting, but I was a little distracted by the guy reading it in his bubble-bath. And check out this amazing (now embarrassing) LDS YA novel! Speaking of LDS books, it’s time to read Mormon Enigma.

Again congrats to the winners and all of the nominees of this year’s Brodies!! I can’t wait to see what great stuff 2011 brings!! And don’t forget to submit your nominations for the William Law X-Mormon of the Year — We’ll start the voting this week. Have a great week!

It’s hard to tell which story generated more satire: Rick Perry and his interesting ad (with a little help from his friends), or BYU Idaho — which may or may not have banned “skinny jeans”. Perhaps the “skinny jeans” one, since it spawned some great riffs on modesty and other…
