Sunday in Outer Blogness: Women and Men Edition!

chanson, July 2, 2011September 3, 2011

Today’s trivia question: Which band wrote the song alluded to in my title this week, and the song in this one?

The good news is that the gay marriage question is going in the right direction. Of course the GLBTQ community’s problems are far from solved — indeed some feel that other issues are bigger than marriage. And women’s issues have taken a turn for the worse, prompting some feminists to resurrect the ERA. Fortunately, some men are allies and get it, but not all. Then there’s the whole question of what is gender anyway? Does it matter?

Sorry to keep tacking racial issues onto the end of the sex-and-gender discussion, but it seems like instead of having a big blowout on the subject, we see a few intriguing discussions each week!

Other discussions included the Word of Wisdom, critical thinking for kids, Joseph Smith: prophet or con artist (like somebody else), and the mysterious magic of Mormonism (Oh, and continuing last week’s discussion, it turns out that whole Quakers-on-the-Moon belief wasn’t weird for its time). Are Mormons sweet or sneaky? Don’t miss their best idea ever!

Then we’ve got our perennial topics: those wacky Republicans, arguments for and against God, and polygamy in Mormon history.

The podcast about online forums has prompted lots of introspection about our online habits! Some folks were lucky enough to meet fellow bloggers, others are still hashing things out with family and other Mormons.

And not to miss: for weeks, Diane has been writing parodies of LDS Hymns — she’s passed 23!

Have a great week!

When studying history, it’s hard to separate fact from interpretation. Chris Smith argues that it may not be possible. And even a simple question like when to use Obama’s middle name in textbooks has an ideological component. Meanwhile, faithful-LDS blogger DKL really gets it right in his defense of Fawn…

Sunday in Outer Blogness: Ordination edition

March 24, 2013

chanson is on vacation this week, so I’m going to attempt Sunday in Outer Blogness. On the faithful side of outer blogness, things have been astir about female ordination.  Not surprisingly, many faithful mormons disagree about this issue. Considering the last time feminists called for female ordination they were excommunicated,…

Sunday in Outer Blogness: Reflection Edition

July 13, 2014

Chanson asked me to fill in for SiOB this week – I think it’s been a quiet week. (Sort of like Garrison Keillor’s Lake Wobegon – it’s always a quiet week). But this week is quiet for many reasons – perhaps we’re all still reacting (or not reacting) to the…

Without doing a google search (I promise!), is the band “They Might Be Giants” who wrote Women and Men?
