Time to vote for X-Mormon of the Year 2014!!!

chanson, January 8, 2015January 8, 2015

X-Mormon of the Year Thanks for all the great nominations, folks!! Now it’s time to vote!!

Before we begin, I’d like to remind everyone that “X-Mormon of the Year” is not a lifetime achievement award — it’s for the X-Mormon who had the biggest impact in 2014. We might consider adding a lifetime achievement award at some point. OTOH, if your favorite X-Mormon kept a low profile in 2014, s/he just might burn the church down next year — you never know! 😀

(Well, except the one that died…)

Anyway, without further ado, vote here!! (Candidate profiles below)

  • Kate Kelly: Was excommunicated (in absentia) in 2014 for organizing a group to try to convince the CoJCoL-dS to ordain women.
  • Jeremy Runnels: His famous (2013) CES letter continued to gain momentum in 2014.
  • Denver Snuffer: Having been X’d (in 2013), Snuffer appears to maybe be starting a splinter group…?
  • Shane Pittson: A BYU student who is currently organizing opposition to BYU’s beard ban.
  • Ultra Violet: Andy Warhol’s sidekick; passed away in 2014.
  • Tom Phillips: Published an account of his “Second Annointing” ordinance (in 2012). Has not been excommunicated (yet) as far as I can tell. (Correct me in the comments if I’m wrong.)
  • John Larsen: Host of the popular Mormon Expression Podcast. Retired from podcasting in 2014.
  • John Dehlin: Narrowly avoided excommunication proceedings in 2014, but it looks like it’s coming up…
  • Jim Whitefield: Ex-Mormon scholar who publicized his disaffection (in 2011? — post a comment if you know something he’s famous for in 2014).
  • Kay Burningham: Author of An American Fraud: One Lawyer’s Case against Mormonism (published in 2011 — if you know any more about her antics in 2014, please post them in the comments).
  • Sue Emmett: Organizes the Ex-Mormon Foundation Conference yearly.

Note: Mia Love was also nominated, but I’m not convinces she’s sufficiently “X” to be included.

The polls will remain open for two weeks — until January 22, 2015, (7am Switzerland time). Have fun choosing your favorite!! And when you’re done, don’t forget to add your nominations for the Brodie awards!!!

Why Are So Many Mormons Devil Worshippers?

March 15, 2025

Latter-day Saints—Mormons—members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—have been accused through the years of belonging to a cult, being non-Christian, being fanatics. They’ve even been accused of being devil worshippers. I used to laugh at such claims, but now I see there might be some merit to…

Either someone nominated more than one candidate (and couldn’t vote for both) of someone nominated a candidate but didn’t vote for her/him. Am I missing anything?
