Big shocker here, folks. The creater of the Mormons Exposed calendar is being hauled into a “court of love” over his calendar. Apparently topless Mormon missionaries are too much for the LDS leadership. This is a great opportunity for another shameless plug for my latest pet theory about the LDS leadership: seeing men as sex symbols, like men marrying each other, is just one more knock on the fragile egos of the leaders. (I know, it’s probably just a modesty thing, but you have to wonder…)

Sunday in Outer Blogness: Excommunication again edition!!
I feel like a broken record here, blogging about this again, but I’m not exactly the one who’s in a rut. The CoJCoL-dS has excommunicated yet another blogger for the terrible crime of discussing doctrine online in an interesting and thought-provoking way. Here’s a first-hand account. Another blogger is currently…
Sunday in Outer Blogness: Excommunication!!!!!!1!
The question on everyone’s mind this week: “Has the CoCJoL-dS finally, truly jumped the shark?“ Even God is displeased. You’re probably aware by now that excommunication proceedings have begun for Kate Kelly — the woman who had the audacity to prove the prophets embarrassingly wrong about womens’ alleged lack of…
Children — not possessions, not position, not prestige — are our greatest status symbols
OK, I know I probably shouldn’t be posting my own personal complaint about the talk that has already been deconstructed all over the Bloggernacle. But all this debate over career vs. getting your whites whiter than white seems to have missed what (to me) was the most disturbing thing in…
I thought the calendar was actually a pretty useful tool in distinguishing us from the FLDS. It’ll be even better if these guys follow through on their next rumored project – the hotness of Mormon motherhood.
Looking forward to it.
We’re having a relatively lively discussion of this over at The Visitors’ Center right now.
(Sorry, but I hate repeating myself. π )
I pretty much agree with you on this one. I think if it were a calendar of Mormon women, no one would really care. But objectifying men?? Priesthood holders??? Heaven help us!
Oh, I think they’d care. I don’t think it’s about objectification per se. I think it’s more like blowing the squeaky-clean image all to hell and back.
I daresay more of this and Romney might actually have a chance of convincing the non-evangelical public that Mormons aren’t such a lockstep bunch after all.
I think they’d care about a female calendar even more than a male calendar. Modesty is something that is pushed on women in the LDS Church more than it is for men. If this calendar had been of a bunch of sister missionaries in sports bras and yoga pants, etc. (and other such mildly “racy” attire), there would have been even more of a stink than this calendar generated.
Hmmm…
What about the ‘missionaries’ who chose to have their pics published? Don’t they (their choices-decisions) count?
Mormon leaders wish to micro-manage EVERYONE who’s within their range of influence, this is Value – Backlash; LDS are loosing the ability to make ANY decision > which route to go to church. The ONLY realistic decision they’re ‘granted’ is to follow or not.
SHAME SHAME SHAME.
You been sick in bed or something Guy?
I was wondering what happened to you.
Well, it’s official. The SL Trib just announced he’s been excommunicated.
I just gotta wonder…is the calendar’s creator working a brilliant Madonna-like promotional campaign to drive sales and notoriety for future projects?
Guess they had PI type personal dirt on the guy? Hard to beleive the Calender alone did it. The church often seems to take the low road when the GAs are prodding the locals to purge somebody.
He sounds rather glad that it happened. Now he doesn’t even have to write a letter asking for his name to be removed.
He claimed he owed it to his Mormon family to at least be kicked-out rather than remove himself.
Awesome! π
so he gets exed for guys removing their shirts, marriott is fine with porn in hotel rooms – interesting disparity
His real problem was the lack of shareholders to hide behind.
Well, itΓ’β¬β’s official. The SL Trib just announced heΓ’β¬β’s been excommunicated.
Got a link?
I hope he will still go on with the female one (I also hope that isn’t just some rumour, since I thought “they need to have a chick version” ever since I first saw the calendar) even though he’s been ex’ed
Are they going to make all the participants go to a Court of ‘Love’ too?
Never mind; I found it.
wow, the church did this guy SUCH a favor – exed him so he doesn’t have to resign, and provided him with millions in free media coverage – so predictable – I think they need some new PR guys down on Temple Square – or the 15 need to start listening to the ones they’ve got – this stuff always backfires
Remember the “Missionary (girl) Pin-Up” / “Missionary ‘Girl Friend'” picture from the 70’S?
a (Caucasian, of course) gal with long hair wearing an ankle-length pioneer style dress?
iirc, this was from the late 60’s – early 70’s.
Wish I kept a copy.
How about a ‘Lady (returned?)Missionary’ calendar?
It was only a matter of time until/before ‘someone’ suggested it….
If they, too, were topless (and my wife would let me), I’d buy it just to support people taking a stand against the LDS leadership’s monopoly on what is moral and what is not.
BTW, did any other RMs on here have sister missionaries in their missions who were attractive. I can think of at least two in my mission who were very attractive. One of them was a registered nurse… which reminds me of a story:
I was living in the most humid part of the country at one point on my mission and developed a rash… Well, you know where. I called the mission office to see if I could get permission to go to a doctor. They said call this sister missionary and ask her advice. I did. She wanted details… It was quite mortifying at the time! π
I guess I couldn’t separate her being my equal (a missionary) and attractive (she was) from her role as mission nurse at that time. Now, someone tells me they’re a healthcare professional and I’ll show them whatever they want without batting an eye! π
“permission” to go to a doctor?
which gulag were you in, comrade? when?
did the LM ask to see the ‘particulars’?
That gulag would be the Costa Rica mission. She wasn’t around to check out the “particulars,” but said that if it didn’t clear up by the next time I was near the office, she would want to see them. π
It cleared it. It was going to clear up!
I’m having trouble fitting ‘missionary’ and ‘healthcare professional’ into the same person; myself, I think they’re mutually exclusive….
Oh Well.
